Film Trailer Final

Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Our media has used many different types of real media, from movies to music, magazines to posters. We used as our main help for the trailer, starsky and hutch. This is because the film trailer that we are doing is set in the same time as starsky and hutch. But we didn't like the clothing that was used in the film. Our ideas were used from starsky and hutch but we added our own modern twist too it. After looking for music to go on our trailer we came across the video from Example - Last one standing. In this video we see exactly how we want ourselves to be dressed in our trailer and take inspiration from some of the ideas used in this video as possibilities for our own trailer. We developed some scenes from the video of last one standing to use for our trailer, this is because there was old 70's 80's cops in the video that are cracking down on music piracy. In our trailer we are 70's 80's cops cracking down on drugs. This is relevant for this era when drugs was a massive part of society. We feel that even today drugs are around, but now people are finding new and more dangerous drugs and we feel that it needs to be stopped. This was the reason for our trailer. We challenged real media products such as Sony Vegas, this is the software we used for editing our trailer, this is because the software at school was not compatible with the camera we used to film with. We used robin's camera to film our trailer instead of the camera's supplied by school, so we had to edit on the software at his house. Also we used a real media product such as paint and word to help make our storyboard for the trailer, our final storyboard includes picutures from our film trailer. Another piece of media we used to develop our trailer was sony vegas, this was used to edit our trailer. It took us a while to do as we had a lot of scenes to cut out, but making sure they were the right ones to cut was important as it could have messed up the whole process. Here is an image of the editing process. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? The combination of our main product and the ancillary texts is vital in order to catch the audiences attention, this is so we can get as many people as possible to watch the film. I feel the combination is very good, because we have put the characters from the main product onto the magzine front cover. Showing the audience what to expect but also the magazine cover shows actors that have been interviewed for it. The actors are the sort you would see in the same genre of film that we have filmed. This again is vital in catching th audiences attention. We have combined the main product and the magazine cover well by putting an effective title for the magazine cover. The name of our magazine is ACTION, people will see this straight away and catches their eye. It is also a word that is used often in filming so we felt it was appropriate to combine it with the magazine cover. With the poster, we just put the car that was used in the film on it. We felt that this would be more effective because people will see it and think about the film and then want to come and watch it to find out more. Also it will attract people in because its an old 80's car. This shows to the audience that its set in the 80's but also combines in with the main product because of the car. What have you learned from your audience feedback? From the feedback we learnt a lot. and tried to interpret this into our trailer. For example the first persons answers were from a woman that wasn't in our target audience. She agreed to how we had made the film trailer by aiming it at our target audience, from her answers we feel that she wouldn't want to see the film but thinks children for the right age group would love too. The next person we asked was someone from our target audience, the people from the target audience gave the best responses from anyone elses. This is exactly what we were aiming for, we are very happy with this as it shows we have met the needs of our target audience. Even though some of the target audience didnt agree with everything, we feel that this is good because it is constructive and helps us to make the trailer better. From the feedback overall a lot of the feedback was about our camera angles, from this we can see which ones we need to change and what is best to do in order to make it better. We have made a video for a potential target audience we did it as an itterigation as if he was in the film. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? Media technologies are used in every day life, we used it all the time for our film trailer and ancillary texts. For research we used media technologies such as film trailers for our genre and one from a random genre. We also used it for our ancillary texts. Pictures of magazine covers and movie posters for deconstructions to help us to make ours. To construct our trailer we needed music for the trailer, we were having a look at songs on youtube and came across the song last one standing by Example, in the video for this song the singers where wearing the clothing we wanted to use in our piece. This song influenced us for costumes and what sort of props to use. Using robins camera to film our trailer is using media technology and also editing it on his software at his house. This helped to construct the piece to how we wanted it to be for the audiences viewing. For our planning we used media technologies such as word and excel. These where used for making our planning sheet so we can see what we need to do each week. One task was to do an audience feedback questionnaire, for this the technology we used was excel. In this programme we could put the results into a chart. As seen on my blog. Also for deconstucting my magazine cover and poster i used microsft word, this is because its a programme that i am familiar with and can use with ease. Without media technologies i feel that i wouldnt be able to make our trailer. Youtube was another technology we used, we used this website so we could listen to possible tracks for our trailer, this helped us lots as the songs were very easy to view. For the evaluation stage i am obviously using blogger which is a technology webpage for which i have uploaded posts on with my coursework. For the evaluation we used Sony vegas and paint to copy and past images of the editing process onto our blogs. Constructing the poster for the trailer was one of the two ancillary tasks, which meant the process was as important as the trailer itself. We used media technologies to help produce the poster, the technology we used was photoshop. Here is the steps we took to making the poster

This technology was used because we felt that it was the best for us to use a step by step guid to making our poster the best it could be, also i tmeant we could take out different parts of different pictures to make an overall ancillary text.

Audience feedback questionnaire

Here is the feedback to our questionnaire questions.

We then recieved the answers to these questions.

Here is one of the feedback questionnaire answers we recieved for the film.We decided to ask someone who wasn't in our aimed target audience, this way we would see how they felt about our trailer and if it was good from their opinion.

After this we asked somebody that was in our target audience to see how they felt about the film.

Here are the other responses we recieved about our questionnaire.

Final Poster

This is a picture of our final poster. we had to add a layer of brightness effect to the poster on the word "and" as this was un able to be read due to its darkness against the dark background of the street.
Our poster was hard to create as we had to ask permission for the right to use some of the images in it as well as combining images in order to create a proffesional looking poster in the correct style. we decided at first to base our poster upon the poster we used for our group de construction with a close up of part of the car, mid-action. however as we did not own the car this shot would be too hard for us to recreate on our poster with special effects. we instead tried to make the car stand out against a suitable background in an opposing colour spectrum e.g. a red car on a background shot through a green lens filter. we hoped that by doing this it would look like the car was famous from an 80's police drama show or film and so our supposed audience would 'recognise' the car. this is what they did for the 2004 starsky and hutch film by using the tv shows iconic car to make their target audience seem intrigued. this is our final poster.

Final Magazine Cover

Here is our final magazine cover, we changed the font on the cover as the programme at school would not allow us to upload the magazine cover we first made.

Editing Process

The editing process took us a while to do, this is because we had a lot of special effects to put into the trailer. We did a lot of different scenes and we had to decide as a group on what we cut from the trailer and at what paarts. This was vital as if we had done it wrong then the trailer would'nt have been up to the standards we wanted it to be.

Evaluation difference

I decided to use a different approach for my evaluation, the others decided to record their evaluation where as i wanted to use an written appraoch
